J2J Saturday Speaker Series: U.S. District Court Judge Vernon D. Oliver

Judge Vernon D. Oliver was nominated by President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. and sworn in as a United States District Judge for the District of Connecticut on October 19, 2023. Prior to his appointment as a United States District Judge, Judge Oliver served on the Connecticut Superior Court since 2009. As a Connecticut Superior Court Judge, he presided over both civil and criminal cases and trials in several courts statewide. Judge Oliver chaired the Committee on Judicial Ethics and the State Wiretap Panel, and was a member of the Connecticut Sentencing Commission, Criminal Jury Instructions Committee and Judicial Review Council.

Prior to his time on the bench, Judge Oliver served as an Assistant State’s Attorney with the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice and an Assistant Attorney General in the Child Protection Bureau of the Office of the Attorney General.

A native of Bridgeport and a lifelong resident of Connecticut, Judge Oliver received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Connecticut.
